3 Red Flags In Small Business Marketing

3 Red Flags In Small Business Marketing

Starting a small business takes plenty of planning and preparation. Without a strong and developed small business marketing plan, your business likely won’t last very long. Here are three common red flags we see with small business marketing.

Lack of Marketing

Every small business, regardless of product or service, needs marketing! Although, many small business owners make the mistake of thinking it will “work itself out.” Even if your business is going well, it won’t be sustainable if you aren’t constantly generating new leads. Implementing a small business marketing plan is a smart way to ensure your business attracts new customers in the future.

A Crappy Website (Or No Website at All)

There are two scenarios that we come across very often when talking to small business owners. First, we see business owners who paid $2,000-$3,000 a few years ago and are upset their site looks out of date. A website is like a home, it takes constant upkeep to keep it looking its best. So if you can’t remember the last time your website was updated, it’s probably time.

Second, we talk to small business owners who believe they don’t need a website at all. Today, a website represents your business just as much as your brick-and-mortar storefront. It’s best to consider a website your business’s digital storefront. It’s the first interaction for many potential clients with your brand and it’s vital to the legitimacy of your small business.

Not Having an SEO Strategy

There are millions, if not billions of websites on the internet which make it nearly impossible to rank on Google’s first page without a solid SEO strategy. However, there are still many small business owners that tell us they don’t need SEO because “no one searches for them online.” People are searching for your business online, and by making several strategic modifications to your website, your business will be easier to find. However, there is a steep learning curve when learning SEO, and it’s often best to consult a professional marketing team.
