If you are a business owner odds are you have a website with a homepage and probably feel like you don’t need a landing page. However a homepage and a landing page are two different things with two completely different purposes. Here are the basics you’ll need to understand when making the decision between homepage vs landing page.

The purpose of a homepage.

Your business’s homepage is a digital introduction to the products and/or services that you can provide to a client. Think of it as the “front door” to your website. It should be interesting enough to make people want to learn more about your business and explore other pages on your site. If properly designed, your homepage should provide easy navigation opportunities to other parts of the site such as a blog, online store or other sections that describe your business in more detail. The purpose of your website is not necessarily to sell. The real purpose of a homepage is to give clients a place to get more information about your company when they are going through the process of vetting your business.

The purpose of a landing page.

A landing page is designed with a single purpose. The purpose of most lading pages is to get the visitor to perform some kind of action. For example the page can ask a visitor to sign up for a newsletter or request information about a product or service. The content of a landing page must be clear and get to the point very quickly. In addition a landing page must have a clear call to action in several strategic locations so visitors can easily perform the action you’re requesting of them. However the most important feature of a landing page is the ability to have one page that can be capture and track information across all online platforms. A landing page can be used for a pay-per-click campaign or shared on social media and email. The best part is that all all of the information is gathered in one place.
