You know that your business, no matter how small, needs a great website to compete in today’s digital world. There are many options when it comes to building a website and deciding which works best for you can seem overwhelming. In addition, as a business owner, you are probably the kind of person that feels like you can take on any task that comes your way, so a DIY websites builder a such as WIX may seem like a good option for creating a website. However, there are downsides to using WIX website builder to create for a site for your business, here are four of the largest.
In 2016 WIX made an update to their website builder which allows designers to modify the mobile website layout. However, the mobile layout modifications only apply to smartphones, not tablets. If you view a WIX website on a tablet you’ll see a stretched version of the regular site which makes all content difficult to see.
Although WIX has made some updates to their website builder it’s still not really all that SEO friendly. You still don’t have the ability to edit page titles, URLs, tags and/or meta descriptions for pages on your website. All of these things make it difficult for search engines to identify what type of content is on your site. If searching engines can’t determine what type of content is on your page, you’ll never show in their search results.
WIX only allows users to select from premade templates to “design” their websites. This really isn’t a problem if you don’t mind several thousand websites looking exactly like yours. A better solution is to hire a reasonably priced web developer to customize a WordPress template for your business. Although the cost may be more up front you’ll have a website that sets you apart from the competition.
A WIX site is free, which is great when you’re starting a business and funds are tight. However, as your business becomes successful you’ll likely outgrow a WIX site as you need more functionality from your website. Unfortunately, it’s not very easy to export content from a WIX site to another platform so you’ll have to re-enter all of your content again onto the new platform.
